The London Hammer

The Claim

There’s a 400 million year old iron hammer apparently made by humans!

The London hammer is simply an iron hammer that has been encased in a piece of rock. The strange thing is that part of the handle seems to have turned into coal, which takes hundreds of millions of years.

The hammer was found in Texas along the Red creek trail by a couple out walking one day in 1936. They saw an interesting piece of rock and decided to take it home, several years later their son broke it open and found there to be a hammer encased within it.

The hammer could not possibly have formed naturally as it consists of worked iron with a carved wooden handle, but the rock it sits in is believed to take hundreds of millions of years to form, and since part of the handle has turned into coal it seems this piece really is as old as people say.

Even though its just a hammer the creator would have needed to posses an advanced knowledge of metal work, as the hammer consists of 96.6% iron, 2.6% chlorine, and 0.74% sulphur. The additional ingredients were put in to preserve the hammer and stop it from rusting, as it hasn’t done in the slightest since its discovery in 1936.

Carbon dating results on the hammer are inconclusive, with estimates ranging from a few years ago to no more than 700 years old. This doesn’t explain why part of the handle has turned into coal as this process cannot be sped up, and it also raises question as to how the date range varies so widely.

For now the hammer sits in its case at the Creation evidence museum in Texas. The museum acquired it from creationist Carl Baugh who bought it in 1983 after he declared it was a pre-flood artifact. But then again he also declared how the quality of the atmosphere before the “flood” would have been different and encouraged the growth of giants, so……..yeah.
