dyatlov pass incident

The Claim

9 Hikers were killed by supernatural forces

In 1959 in the Ural mountains of Russia, 9 hikers were taking a trip across the region. Everything was going fine and they were well prepared for their trip, but on the nights of 1st and 2nd of February they would all die in mysterious circumstances leading an official investigation by the police concluding that they were killed by an “unknown compelling force”.

The investigation ruled that 6 of them had died from hypothermia and the remaining 3 simply by “physical trauma”, but the story is not as straight forward as it seems and also led to the officer leading the investigation to quit his position after.

The story being with the 9 people who were on a hiking/skiing trip across the Ural mountain range. Most of them were friends from university and knew each other well, they were also well adjusted to the climate and seemed to have properly prepared for the journey bringing ample supplies and gear.

Everything was going according to plan until the night of 2nd of February when the group stopped to make camp for the night. They were all comfortably in their tents when during the night something caused the 2 groups to cut open their tents from the inside and run out into the night in extreme panic.

Both tents were cut open in this way and all 9 of the group ran out into the night wearing their sleeping cloths, with some of the group not even wearing shoes. Temperatures in the Ural mountains can easily reach -30C during the night and all 9 of the group were found between 1 and 2 kilometres away from their tents.

(The remains of the camp during the investigation)

The story gets even stranger due to the manner of their remains. 6 of the group ran in one direction from the tents while 3 took another route. The 6 were found with strange injuries with 2 of the group having severe burns to their hands, though the final cause of death for them was ruled as hypothermia.

The other 3 didn’t get off so lightly and were found 3 months later in May when the snows started to thaw. 1 of the group had multiple injuries including a missing tongue and various facial cuts, a missing eye and a chuck of bone fragment was knocked out of the skull.

The other 2 had extreme internal injuries which the attending doctor to the scene, Dr Boris Vozrozhdenny likened to being hit by a truck, though there was no external damage to the bodies what so ever. This ruled out bear or human attacks as it simply wouldn’t be possible to inflict such massive internal damage without so much as a bruise on the outside, so the investigation ruled the cause of death simply as “physical trauma”.

So they were killed by aliens, Could that be true?

Mmmmm possibly, it has been raised numerous times as an explanation but most people don’t believe this as there are simply to many unanswered questions and suspicious circumstances.

Here are some of the most frequently asked questions that are yet to be answered:

If fire caused the burns on their hands and was the reason for them to cut themselves out of their own tent then why wasn’t there any fire damage to the tent itself or to more than just the 2 of them?

Why run so far?
The 9 ran off in 2 groups in 2 different directions. They were all found between 1 and 2 kilometres away from their camp. If it was something like a fire or a bear why run that distance knowing the climate is more dangerous?

How did it happen to both tents simultaneously?
Should something like a bear appear it would most likely grab the attention of 1 tent with the other being able to react to the sound and open the zip instead of cut the side open, suggesting something appeared inside or entered through doors of both tents at the same time.

Why no tracks?
The first group of 6 was found relatively quickly after the incident and their footprints from the camp were still visible. There was no sign of any kind of any other footprints apart from the 9, nor were there animal or vehicle tracks, which suggests whatever it was could have been flying.

How did the injuries occur?
The injuries to the hiker with the missing tongue has been reasonably explained with science, as she was found laying face down in a stream and since it was 3 months until they were found its reasonable to agree with the attending doctor that the injuries were caused by nature, but the other 2 is a different story. How did they suffer such massive internal injuries without so much as a scratch o the outside.

Why did “it” only happen to one of the groups?
After the initial departure from their camp, 6 ran in one direction and the other 3 another, and it was the the group of 3 that the strange death happened to, suggesting that whatever it was followed them and left the other 6.

Explanations

indigenous Mansi people were angry at outsiders infringing on their territory and attacked the group, though this investigation was officially dropped as it was deemed a human couldn’t possibly inflict the level of damage on the hikers as it was done with to much force.

Aliens, of course someone would suggest aliens and normally id rule that out straight away, but in this case there are simply to many strange circumstances to not at least consider it.

Military experiments were the result of the deaths, with some bizarre secret device being tested, though at this stage this is nothing more than conspiracy theories as not a shred of evidence exists to support this.

It seems that the truth will forever remain lost on this one, with reality being any ones guess since no new evidence will ever surface and no witnesses or remains to review.
